Insurer Highmark Inc. and Jefferson Regional Medical Center in western Pennsylvania have announced the completion of their affiliation, making Jefferson Regional the first to join Highmark's new integrated delivery system, according to a news release.

The affiliation of Allegheny County-based Jefferson Regional with Highmark and UPE, a nonprofit that will be the new parent of Highmark, comes with up to $100 million for capital projects, the release stated.

The affiliation received its final needed approval last month when the Allegheny County Orphans' Court signed off on Allegheny County-based Highmark affiliations with Jefferson and West Penn Allegheny Health System.

The West Penn affiliation needs approval from the Pennsylvania Insurance Department, according to a news release Friday.

Highmark also is working on developing an affiliation with Erie County-based Saint Vincent Health System, according to the release.
