Five Central Pennsylvania career and technical education programs are among the 31 that received a total of $1.64 million through the state's Career and Technical Education Equipment Grant program.

Lancaster County Career & Technology Centers 2 and 3 and York County School of Technology 2 and 3 each received $50,000; and Upper Dauphin Area School District received $12,000.

Schools must match the funds dollar-for-dollar to purchase equipment that meets industry standards, which will be used to train students in high-priority jobs.

The department of education reported receiving 63 applications requesting more than $2.94 million in the competitive program.
