The union representing faculty and coaches at the 14 universities in the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education has announced it will not call a strike this semester.

In an open letter to students at the universities, which include Millersville and Shippensburg, Association of Pennsylvania State College & University Faculties president Steve Hicks wrote, “Faculty know you are worried that your professors will go on strike. We know you are concerned about the impact a strike would have on your classes, your finals, and your tuition dollars.

“After thoughtful deliberation and consideration about how a strike at this time would affect our students, we have decided to postpone consideration of a strike for the rest of this semester.”

APSCUF members voted last month to give negotiators authority to call a strike if they decide to. The next negotiating sessions between APSCUF and PASSHE are scheduled for mid-December.
