Backed by Rick and Missy Galiardo, business partners of downtown nightlife king Ron Kamionka, Buddha Buddha is a 55-seat upscale bar that boasts 21 handcrafted martinis and cocktails and a menu of scratch-made dishes.
Executive chef Mike Davis, who recently worked at The Cellar in East Pennsboro Township, makes everything on site, including his sauces.
Some Davis sauce creations include sesame ginger, spicy Thai peanut, sweet and spicy and an Asian plum wine sauce. His twist on sushi features a Boston roll with fresh super lump crab meat and a Philadelphia roll with wasabi cream cheese.
Buddha Buddha also serves up Asian-style tacos with corn tortillas. The tacos are built using teriyaki beef, miso shrimp and lobster salad, Davis said.
Prices range from $6 to $10.
"It gives people an option to share and split things up," Davis said of the small-plate menu.
Across the street from WCI Partners' newly opened Second and State office building, Buddha Buddha aims to cater to the happy hour and late-night crowds. It is at the site of the former Egypt night club.
It is open 4:30 p.m. to midnight Sunday through Wednesday and 4:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. Thursday through Saturday.
"This is exactly what downtown Harrisburg needs," said Dustin Guyer, who is managing the new establishment, which is decorated with Asian artwork, including a giant Buddha statute overlooking the dining area.
The lounge will offer select drinks for $5 during its happy hour, which will run from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Bottled beer will be $1 off.
"This is the perfect place for happy hour because of the style of food we sell," said Guyer, who last worked as general manager of the Red Robin on Jonestown Road in Lower Paxton Township.
