The report showed 10.1 percent growth in health care employment since December 2007, while employment in other sectors declined 4.7 percent.

More recently, the AICSHS report said, health care employment rose by 44,000 jobs in September, the second-highest gain in a decade — just below the 46,000 in September 2011 — and well above the 24-month average of 25,000.

Ambulatory health care services, which have a 24-month average of 16,000, accounted for 30,000 new jobs in September, broken down as follows:

• Outpatient care centers: 9,000

• Home health care services: 8,000

• Physician offices: 7,000

• Other categories, including dental and chiropractic offices and labs: 6,000.

Hospitals added 8,000 jobs in September, up from their 24-month average of 7,000. Although their growth rate for the past year was only 1.7 percent, in that time they added the most jobs of any sector of health care: 81,600.
