People who attend Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet performances spend nearly $2.6 million in the region each year, according to a recent Shippensburg University study.

According to a news release, individuals who attended performances were asked various questions such as how far they traveled, whether they ate dinner in the area, whether they stayed overnight and what else they did while they were in the area.

Conducted by SU graduate students Chris Sheipe and Joey Reese, the study also showed CPYB operational expenditures of nearly $1.6 million and salaries and wages of nearly $1.4 million, for a total economic impact approaching $5.7 million.

"In a time when arts are being pushed away, this really means something," Reese said.

CPYB is a nonprofit organization based in Carlisle that reports having more than 70 alumni currently in highly regarded ballet companies.
