Ahold, the Middlesex Township-based parent of Giant Food Stores, is requesting the tax abatement under Local Economic Revitalization Tax Assistance laws, or LERTA. The company earlier said it’s willing to discuss shorter terms if 10 years is not acceptable. It’s seeking similar LERTA approvals from Cumberland County and the West Shore School District.
The meat-packaging facility, set to open next year, will create about 800 jobs for the cutting and packaging of beef and pork products for sale in Giant’s Pennsylvania and Maryland stores.
The Lower Allen Township commissioners’ next meeting is Oct. 22.
