Rite Aid unveils next-generation wellness store

Cumberland County-based drugstore chain Rite Aid Corp. unveiled the next generation of its wellness store format, which includes more inviting design elements and interactive features, at its new Lemoyne store today.

The wellness store format began in 2011. Rite Aid has about 570 wellness stores out of its more than 4,600 locations and expects to have nearly 800 by the end of the current fiscal year, the company said.

One first for the company at the renovated Market Street location is the ability for customers to interact with blood glucose meters in the section devoted to diabetic care, said Ken Martindale, Rite Aid's chief operating officer.

The setup is similar to how products are displayed in cellphone stores.

Also, the company has brought smoking cessation offerings out from behind the counter in a display near the pharmacy, Martindale said.

Design elements in the store include wood grain and warmer color schemes as well as lower shelves and clear signage, the company said.

Shares of Rite Aid are traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol RAD.
