State manufacturing council to present report on strengthening industry

Members of the Governor’s Manufacturing Advisory Council will present a report next week on the council’s recommendations to improve Pennsylvania’s standing as a place for job-creating manufacturing investments.


Gov. Tom Corbett and senior Cabinet members also will take part in the presentations, which will be given at four locations around the state on Aug. 21, according to the Team Pennsylvania Foundation:

• Central: 2 p.m. at McClarin Plastics, 15 Industrial Drive, Hanover. Presenters will be Ron Tomalis, secretary of the state Department of Education; and Todd Kennedy, CEO of McClarin Plastics.

• Lehigh Valley: 1:30 p.m. at Westport Axle, 650 Boulder Drive, Breinigsville. Presenters will be Corbett and Carlos M. Cardoso, president and CEO of Kennametal Inc.

• Southeast: 3 p.m. at Edison/Fareira High School Welding Facility, 151 W. Luzerne St., Philadelphia. Presenters will be Julia K. Hearthway, secretary of the state Department of Labor & Industry; and Mike Pearson, CEO of Union Packaging.

• Southwest: 3 p.m. at Mon Valley Works Training Hub, 1 S. Linden St., Duquesne. Presenter will be Alan Walker, secretary of the state Department of Community & Economic Development; and Mike Williams, senior vice president of U.S. Steel.

Council members have been meeting for six months to discuss ways to strengthen the manufacturing industry to help boost the state’s economy, according to Team PA Foundation’s website.
