Pittsburgh-based Howard Hanna Real Estate Services, which is growing its footprint in Central Pennsylvania, came in again at No. 4 on the list of the largest real estate organizations in the United States for 2011, according to Colorado-based real estate consulting firm Real Trends.

This is the third consecutive year that Howard Hanna has held that spot on the list, which ranks firms based on the number of closed transactions. The privately held family company is the largest real estate firm in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

The company reported a record sales year in 2011, with 34,292 closed transactions and a volume of $5.8 billion.

Howard Hanna has 66 offices in Pennsylvania, including five in the Harrisburg region. It acquired two last year, in Carlisle, Cumberland County, and Paxtang, Dauphin County.

Across New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia, the company has 134 offices.

Howard Hanna is in search of potential acquisitions in the Lancaster and York markets, Iva Fiorina, the company’s vice president and regional manager, said earlier this year.
