Pa. House committee advances direct wine shipment bill
Jason Scott
The legislation — House Bill 845 — would permit direct shipping of up to 12 bottles per month per person. The one-time cost of the license is $100, according to the language of the bill, which now goes to the full House.
Current law allows Pennsylvanians to order wines only from state liquor stores. Pennsylvania is one of 17 states that continues to ban direct shipments, said Rep. Curt Sonney, R-Erie County, the bill's sponsor.
The Senate in March passed a related measure.
That bill, which remains in the House Liquor Control Committee, would allow commonwealth residents to buy as many as 24 bottles per month from out-of-state wineries.
The final outcome could be tied to legislation to privatize the state-run liquor stores, Republican leadership has said.
