JLG to make forklifts for Army in $20.6M contract

JLG Industries Inc., which has a Cumberland County manufacturing facility, has received a $20.6 million contract to build forklifts for the U.S. Army, the company said.

The company will build 116 Atlas II forklifts for the Army to supplement its fleet of 2,500 Atlas lifts used in operations around the world, according to JLG.

The Atlas II is an all-terrain forklift with enhancements over the original design, including reduced emissions and multifunctional attachments. The vehicles can lift up to 10,000 pounds and place objects onto trucks or into shipping containers using a telescopic arm.

JLG is based in McConnellsburg, Fulton County, and has a manufacturing facility near Shippensburg.

The company is a subsidiary of Wisconsin-based commercial, emergency and military truck manufacturer Oshkosh Corp. Its shares are traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol OSK.
