The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission has approved beginning the process of creating a registry for nonpublic utility gas and hazardous liquids pipeline equipment and facilities in the state, the commission said.

The PUC last week unanimously voted to finalize the order to start making the registry, provide resources to conduct inspections enforcing federal safety laws on certain pipelines and assess entities for the costs, according to a news release.

The registration fee is $250 and the deadline for this year is March 16, the release stated. Forms and other materials will be available on the PUC's website, according to the release.

The Gas and Hazardous Liquids Pipelines Act directed the commission to make the registry and take other actions, the release stated.

Gov. Tom Corbett signed the law, referred to as Act 127 of 2011, in December and it was scheduled to go into effect today, according to the PUC's website.
