Lancaster chamber announces new programs, 2012 goals

By Holly White

The Lancaster Chamber of Commerce & Industry this morning announced initiatives and goals for 2012 at its annual business meeting.

Programs introduced include a young professionals network arm of the chamber, a fleet fueling cost-savings project and video production for the Think Local campaign.

The Young Professional Network will be free for employees of chamber business members and includes access to an e-newsletter, networking events, leadership training and discounts on events, according to the chamber's website.

The fleet fueling program is offered in partnership with Lancaster-based Rhoads Energy Corp. and Altoona-based Sheetz Inc. Member businesses enrolled with at least one corporate vehicle can receive a discount of 2 cents per gallon at any Sheetz location, which can be combined with use of a My Sheetz Card for an additional 3 cents off per gallon.

As a part of the chamber's Think Local initiative, it's partnering with Manheim Township-based Wood Star Productions Inc. to offer production of company video profiles for participating chamber members.

Plans the chamber presented revolve around its three strategies: lead, connect and innovate.

The 2012 leadership goals are to focus on a pro-business agenda, continued efforts around the sustainable cities initiative, further business education partnerships, moving forward on transportation improvements and continued tracking and analyzing prosperity indicators, President Tom Baldrige said.

Under the connect umbrella, the chamber will continue to develop entrepreneur support, the Young Professional Network and the Think Local campaign, Vice President Cheryl Irwin said.

As a part of its innovation facet, the chamber plans to promote a culture of innovation, provide best-practices programming and review its business model, Baldrige said.

"Lancaster County is already viewed by many people as a model of prosperity," said E. Philip Wenger, the chamber's board chairman and president and chief operating officer of Lancaster-based Fulton Financial Corp.

These strategies will continue the county on the path to success for its businesses and community, he said.
