DOD gives $23M in MRAP, Paladin contracts to BAE

BAE Systems' York County facility continues to receive contracts for work on Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles and the Paladin mobile artillery units for the U.S. military.

The company will work on two contracts worth more than $23 million for the vehicles, according to the Department of Defense.

The Paladin contract with the Army, worth $12.8 million, is for integrated management system support packages for the tank-like vehicles. The work will be performed at BAE's facility in West Manchester Township and is expected to be complete by April of next year.

BAE has been working on contracts to overhaul the Paladin fleet, including rebuilding the vehicles with new bodies and updated technology. It finished prototype work earlier this year. The defense department announced on Wednesday that the Army gave an $11.6 million contract to BAE for Paladin hulls and turrets.

Today, the department also announced a nearly $10.4 million contract modification for BAE to provide field service support for MRAP vehicles in Tampa, Fla. The work for the Marine Corps is expected to be finished by the end of the year.

On Wednesday, the department gave BAE a similar contract worth $7.1 million.
