Airfares at Harrisburg International Airport dropped 23 percent in the second quarter to an average $171, compared with the year-ago quarter, according to the airport.

That's $18 less than average fares for the first quarter, too, according to the airport.

HIA's average second-quarter fare beat the national average of $301, which dropped 13 percent from last year, according to the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics.

HIA in Lower Swatara Township, Dauphin County, had the fifth-largest decline in the nation compared with last year, according to the bureau.
