By Jim T. RyanHarrisburg-based technology company ProSanos Corp. and British pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline released
a software program capable of scouring large medical databases to find correlations
between drugs and medical conditions.
The two companies partnered last November to develop SÆfetyWorks,
Web-based software that helps researchers quickly spot and measure the strength
of associations between drugs and medical conditions, said Stephanie Reisinger,
ProSanos' senior vice president.
"We've had a lot of interest," she said. "This is what
people want to do for drug safety. This is the gap."
No drug is risk-free, but the goal is for researchers to
detect drug-safety issues as soon as possible, she said.
GlaxoSmithKline is the first client to use the software.
ProSanos released it for sale to other companies on Monday.
Reisinger did not give a price for the software but said it
depends on the needs of client.
