Midstate transit agencies are encouraging commuters to leave their vehicles in the driveway and take the bus to work Thursday - national Dump the Pump Day.

In conjunction with the event, County of Lebanon Transit is offering a week of free rides from June 16-20. Rabbittransit in York County is offering free rides Thursday on the agency's fixed route.

The Red Rose Transit Authority in Lancaster County is soliciting testimonials on how the agency's services have benefited individuals. The agency will randomly choose from the submissions to award someone a free year of bus service.

The annual event is sponsored by the American Public Transportation Association, a nonprofit group that encourages commuting alternatives to driving. Locally, Commuter Services of South Central Pennsylvania is endorsing the event. The organization promotes alternative-transportation options for commuters in Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Lancaster, Lebanon, Perry and York counties.
