Builders Benefits Inc. will cease providing self-insured health insurance coverage after Aug. 31, according to the Harrisburg-based group’s website.

Furthermore, the company posted a statement on the site indicating it might not have enough money to pay all claims for medical services.

Posted documents did not elaborate on why BBI is ending its plans, why the company might be insolvent and to what extent.

“Any information that you would need to access you could certainly get from the website,” said Brian McDonald, BBI’s director of marketing. He declined to comment further.

The company has agreements with some Pennsylvania health care providers to not bill individuals for claims BBI is unable to cover, the site states.

But several other providers, including many in the midstate, have said they may charge individuals for unpaid claims other than those involving medical emergencies, the document said.

BBI is a subsidiary of the Pennsylvania Builders Association Benefits Trust.
